Mourning Dove

These attractive birds are common in our area - often seen in backyards - notable for their whistling wings when they're startled into flight.

 At the canal, there is a cluster of these doves in a glen just off the path - it's as if a large, extended family of them live together in this spot - I've noticed them here for the past 3 years.
