Mid-February
2003
On
February 16-17 we experienced an intense snowstorm. The storm left
about 20 inches of snow on the ground. This made walking the path
impractical as the path isn't cleared. Six days following the
snowstorm, almost 2 inches of rain fell, reducing the snow on the
ground while raising the river over the banks into the area I
normally walk. Yesterday was the first time I was able to visit
since the snow and it was a new landscape - In some areas, a layer
of ice perhaps a half inch thick was supported by tree
trunks and stalks while the river had escaped underneath. This
left a raised ice sheet which sounded like glass breaking as I
walked on it. Here's a picture.
