Here's
my epiphany
. When I see one Daylily open, I know that all over the area
there are others, thousands and thousands of them, in bloom at
the same time. I don't know why Daylilies strike me so strongly
in this respect, but it opens up my sense of wonder - this
magical synchronous behavior.
It's
true of other organisms as well - but Daylilies just do it for
me. When I see one open in a neighbor's yard, I know that I can
go seek them out just off the path in the park.
This
year, my favorite spot, where a hidden patch of Daylilies grow,
was trampled down in a circular pattern - not one bud or blossom
left. Resignedly, I supposed that they had provided food for a
few deer.
